Rotating Banner Now Supports Views!

Just a quick update that we’ve released version 1.4 of our Rotating Banner Web Part for SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010. This version now supports selecting a view from the web part properties.

Rotating Banner Web Part - Select View

This will now allow you to set any filter and sort options within your view, and simply point the web part to that existing view.

If you’re an existing user, you’ll be able to download the updated version when you log into the site. If you have any questions or feedback, please get in touch with one of us!

Update - Download as Zip Feature

We’ve released a minor update to our Download as Zip feature that fixes two separate issues:

1. The first was related to our license manager. The error you may encounter will look similar to:

Unable to download DownloadZip.aspx from …

2. The second issue was related to the name of the file upon download. Specifically, there were an additional set of quotes around the filename that prevented association with a zip program.

Both issues above have been resolved. Please download the most recent copy of the feature and run the setup.exe file and choose to Repair the installation.

Major Updates

With the recent refresh of our site, I’d like to take a minute and update our customers on our new prices, our upcoming releases and the new roadmap for Black Ninja Parts.

SharePoint 2013 is an exciting release for us for many reasons, but perhaps the most invigorating is the new app model and it’s potential for third party add ons like ours. So we’re adjusting our strategy a little bit and we’re going to be gearing up for 2013 development asap. This doesn’t mean we’ll discontinue refreshes to our existing products or that we’ll cease support, it just means that we’ll aim to get 2013 versions out as quickly as we can.

So, in light of this, our new roadmap is going to mean the following:

  • Working toward 2013 versions of our current product offering.
  • Developing any new web parts or solutions for SharePoint 2010 and 2013 only.

And as a thank you to all of our existing customers, we’re slashing the prices of our existing web parts to $199 dollars per farm until the end of September. No messy activations, no complicated pricing. Use it on as many QA/Staging and Development machines as you require. We only ask that you purchase separate licenses for multiple farms.

In addition, you’ll notice we’ve refreshed our rotating banner web part and added a brand new product:

  • Rotating Banner Web Part - We’ve updated the features and fixed some bugs. Give it a test drive by downloading the trial from here!
  • Download as Zip Feature - Add a much needed improvement to SharePoint 2010 document libraries - the ability to download the contents into a zip archive!

That’s all for now. If you have any questions about these recent updates, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of us via! We’d love to help.

Coming Soon - Update to Progress Bar

We’ll be uploading an updated version of our popular progress bar web part today that fixes a bug with multiple views on the same page.

Let me clarify the scenario:

1. Assume you have a List or a Document Library with a few items in it utilizing our progress bar.

2. Create a page and add to that page two web parts for your List or Library. You can change the view for each web part, but the key thing is that the same rowID item shows up in both web parts. You will find that the first instance of that item will display the progress bar correctly, whereas any additional instances will just show 0%.

This was a bug discovered in the jQuery plugin we were using for the progress bar animation. We’ve fixed the plugin and will be releasing a new version in the next day or two.

If you’re a customer with this problem and you’d like to get the fix now, contact us directly and we’ll send you the updated files asap for testing.

This was a frequently requested feature, so we’re happy to finally have it in there. Enjoy!

Both of these web parts function in the same way as their 2007 counterparts and we hope you find them as delightful to use in your SharePoint 2010 environments as you did in 2007.

We’re ready to launch!

After many months of work and planning, we’re finally ready to launch our new SharePoint add-on product line. Officially titled the Black Ninja Parts, we’ve debuted our offering with 2 custom column types, 1 web part and some FREE Content By Query styles.

We’re really excited about this because it’s been a long time coming. As a consulting firm, we’re always in the trenches when it comes to SharePoint configuration and development. We’ve had the chance over the years to get a good feel for what the product is capable of and where it needs some ninja help.

We’re also well aware of the many companies out there who make similar products, and our aim in creating our own was simple: offer a great customer experience, with really easy to use and license web parts.

So please check out what we’ve got ready for you now and what’s lined up for the near future. And as always, if you run into any issues or have any problems, we’d like to hear from you. We gaurantee one of our ninjas will get back to you asap.
